Ask an Expert - Presented by the Adjunct Education Committee of the Orthopaedic Division

Join this live Ask an Expert session hosted by the Adjunct Education Committee of the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA).

This interactive webinar gives clinicians the opportunity to discuss musculoskeletal (MSK) clinical cases, ask questions, and learn directly from experienced physiotherapy experts. Topics are guided by participants’ questions and real-world clinical scenarios, providing practical insights you can apply immediately in practice.

How it works:

There will be 2 categories for registrants: 

• Category 1 — Members who want to discuss a case or condition with the instructor. The first 6 members in this category will be allotted 10 minutes each to discuss their case or condition with the instructor. These members are also welcome to listen to the other 5 cases or conditions during that hour. To participate in Category 1, please email Arnold at adoobay@physiotherapy.ca to request a spot — you will be sent a panelist link so you can be seen and heard throughout the session.
• Category 2 — Members who want to listen to the discussion. These members can register as normal and can ask questions via the chat box; the instructor may or may not have time to answer these during the session.

This webinar is designed for physiotherapists, clinicians, educators, and healthcare professionals interested in musculoskeletal care and clinical case discussions.

October's Instructor: Melanie MacKinnon

Melanie MacKinnon specializes in advanced clinical reasoning and the management of complex musculoskeletal presentations — particularly cases where the clinical picture is unclear, multiple factors are at play, or a patient isn't responding as expected. She also brings perspective on mentorship and clinical reasoning development, feedback for clinician growth, and leadership and practice ownership in multidisciplinary settings. A practicing physiotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, Melanie is a multidisciplinary clinic owner and an Assistant Professor (Teaching Stream) at the University of Toronto, where she co-leads the Advanced Musculoskeletal Unit and teaches transition-to-practice topics such as professional identity development, employment models, and contract considerations. She also leads the Founders Selective, focused on leadership and entrepreneurship in healthcare. She holds a MScPT from the University of Toronto and a Master's in Clinical Science (Manipulative Therapy) from Western University, and became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapists (FCAMPT) in 2009. She teaches within the National Orthopaedic Division's Advanced Integrated Manual Therapy program and Western University's Advanced Health Care Practice Graduate Program, and is currently a PhD (Candidate) in Health Professional Education Research, examining how assessment can integrate technical, social, and humanistic dimensions of practice.
